Preventing Healthcare Associated Infection A Clinical Governance Support Programme
This programme is funded by the Department of Health (England) and offered to NHS Trusts by the NHS Clinical Governance Development Team (CGST) in partnership with the Richard Wells Research Centre at Thames Valley University.
The programme is aimed at multidisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals who wish to engage and motivate colleagues to improve the quality of care delivered to patients through a reduction in HAI. Each team must be sponsored by the trust Chief Executive and include a member of the trust Infection Control Team.
The programme uses the RAID model of change management to provide a framework for delegate teams to develop a systematically planned programme of change that will engage staff and other stakeholders in bringing about improvements in infection prevention service and practice. The RAID programme is highly interactive, challenging and well evaluated by previous delegate teams and offers the opportunity for both individual and team development.
The programme is delivered over 5 interactive learning days, each approximately 8 weeks apart, between May 2003 and January 2004. Each learning day takes place in Leicester at the CGST Centre, and involves an overnight stay. Activities known as Interval Actions take place within the trust between each learning day and delegate teams have access to a designated CGST Programme Manager for practical advice and support.
Delegate teams should consist of 4-6 members drawn from a range of healthcare professionals who can motivate others and can achieve! In addition to the member of the Infection Control Team, other members may include: a User/Carer, Manager/CG facilitator, a Senior Nurse, Consultant Surgeon/Physician, GP, Therapist, Housekeeping Manger, Pharmacist.
Costs to NHS Trust The cost of CGST and TVU facilitation time, CGST programme management support and administrative costs are free. The following will need to be met by the NHS trust: Conference costs of 330 (per delegate) for the whole programme Accommodation, evening meal and travel costs for each learning day Indirect costs to the organisation in terms of delegate time for learning days and interval activities associated with the programme
There are a small number of places available for the programme commencing 1 May 2003. Information leaflets have been sent to Trust Chief Executives and Clinical Governance Leads. If you are interested in fielding a delegate team, further information and application forms are available from CGST at www.cgsupport.org or by telephoning 0116 295 2000.
