Vacancies on the Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections
(ARHAI)

Vacancies for a Chair and 14/15 expert members and one lay member
Expert advice to Government on antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infections is currently provided though two different committees: the Specialist Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance (SACAR) and the Steering Group on Healthcare Associated Infection (SG-HCAI http://www.hpa.org.uk/infections/topics_az/hai/steeringgrp.htm). The Department of Health now plans to establish a new independent body to advise across both areas, providing integrated and more streamlined information in these two interrelated fields. This new Advisory Non-Departmental body will be known as the Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections (ARHAI).

Committee members
The Chair will have a track record of national or international leadership, and an understanding of antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infections. With the ability to develop a clear vision and gain the support of others, they will bring scientific rigour to debates and be committed to ensuring the advice given by the committee is evidence based.
Expert members will be respected professionals, knowledgeable about antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infection. Members will be recruited from a wide professional base including medicine, nursing veterinary medicine, pharmacy, science and health management.
The Lay member will have an understanding of the issues associated with antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infections and the ability to understand and reflect on a range of views.
All members will have previous experience as a committee member, the ability to engage in informed and constructive debate with other members with differing views, and with your own formal and/or informal networks to seek the views of peer groups.
Time commitment, location and allowances
The Chair and members will need to devote at least 8 days a year to the Committee and additional sub group business. ARHAI will meet at a central London venue. Although no fees are payable, travelling expenses and subsistence allowances will be paid.
These appointments will be for periods of up to 3 years, in the first instance.
