Hi,
I have noticed a tendency for the odd 'selling'post from corporate members when a discussion is relevant to what they are selling- fair enough. However, I have now recived in my inbox an unsolicited email from a company who got my addess from a reply on this forum. I am afraid I object to this quite strongly. This is not the first time something like this has happened - I was on the reciving end of an unsolicited phone call once when I accidentally used my groupwise signature.
Has anyone else has this problem?
Thanks

Dear all
The forum is open to the public and consequently your e mail addresses are in the public domain should you choose to contribute to the discussions (A new version of the group is being developed and in this version e mail addresses will be hidden). Any commercial company (corporate member, forum member or neither) that trawls the site could find and, if they so choose, use your e mail address (clearly they may not get a positive response). As I understand it (and I'm not an expert), such use is only illegal if your e mail address is a personal one (as opposed to your trust one)under the 'spam' regulations.
Personally I would advise companies that they risk annoying and alienating people by such an approach (as is the case here) but neither I nor the ICNA have any power to stop them.

I've experience of this and I've had lots of junk mails. I got annoyed at first, but then I decided that it's best just to put them in the trash folder and forget about it.Company reps that send unsolicited mails just do themselves more harm that good. |

I agree that direct email response mailings are wrong and should be reported to the administrator for appropriate action. I feel that discussions on the forum about relevant products from companies can only help inform a wider audience. With fast moving developments, sharing product knowledge and feedback is constructive Are we loosing the thread about what this forum was set up for!

We have a consistent and often repeated approach to the contributions of commercial colleagues; such contributions are welcomed and enhance the discussions. Commercial colleagues may discuss their products if it is in direct and relevant response to a request by another user. Direct and unsolicited adverts are not permitted and action will be taken, likewise the practice of answering any thread with a barely disguised advert/ irrelevent message just to mention a product is not permitted and action will be taken.
I hope this is clear, for direct e mailing see my previous message.
