Hi all,

As we are about to enter another winter season, we are all sure to have a
visit at some stage from Norovirus.

At present we have guidelines for the management of a outbreak, adapted
form the National Disease Surveillance Centre guidelines(Ireland), however
I have been asked to look at admission guidelines for suspected Norovirus
patients in A& E.

The idea would be, to have a fast track system to the wards to prevent or
reduce the cross infection risks. However I do perceive problems with this
due to a variety of speciality in the hospital and the lack of available
isolation rooms to mention just a few,
Has any one done this already?
If so, how did you tackle it, what solutions did you find?
All suggestions would be greatfully received.

Thank you in advance

Tracy Doherty
Infection Prevention and Control Nurse.

We are in the process of developing a flow chart for screening patients in A&E; and GP referrals to MAU. The idea is that those patients suspected with norovirus will be fast tracked to a ward and avoid admission through the MAU ward.

I will send forward a copy as soon possible.
