HI

I am an icn in an aquired Brain Injury unit. We have patients with long term trachy"s and our procedure is to change the inner twice daily minimum this is stated in litreture around trachy care ie nursing standard 2000 vol 14/no.42 july 5. this is not only due to the risk of infection but also the risk of occlusion. However if you are looking at changing the trachy itself we do this monthly as per manufacturers recomendations. Hope this is helpful.
