Hello
Have any CIPCNs had any involvement/consultation as to where CIPC will be placed post implementation of CPLNHS and loss of PCT provider status?
Kind regards

The difficulty I have been facing is that no-one knows what the provider arm services will look like. Everyone tells me that commissioning will be looking at ic issues and monitoring but no-one has asked me what should be included from the commisisoning point of view and until the new pct structure unfolds I am not sure how the monitoring will tyake place. I think this is a really difficult time for us, if for no other reason than the provider services are under pressure and find it difficult to know where they will be and hence are a bit resistant to any IC initiatives adding to their work loads. When I asked our CE about this, he thought that we would go with the provider side rather than the commissioning side. Unfortunately no one has any idea where the provider side is going. Options range from going in with the acute trust, a care trust with social services (although the SHA seem to be strongly against this), or fragmentation among a variety of private/voluntary/NHS organisations. All seem like a backward step for IC in primary care. As Debbie says, interesting times, and likely to get more interesting as GP commissioning comes on line - hands up all those who think that IC, or any other form of risk management, will be top of their practices' commissioning list?
Incidentally, why is both commissioning and providing services out of order for PCTs but OK for GPs?

The other possible option is for 'Specialist' Primary Medical Service 'practices' to take over some of the existing provider services, and this could include community infection control.
