Yet more agenda for change

Hi everyone

I would like to put together a (obviously rough!) picture of how ICNs are faring in the banding process.
So if you are willing I'd like to know, for those who've been 'banded', (sounds painful I know):
What band?
What was your existing grade under the old system?
I undestand if you'd rather e mail me directly rather than replying to the group.

I'll happily make aggregated anonymous results available to the group.

Thanks in advance

Neil

Took up newly created I Grade post in January 2005 and have been banded a 7 (see also reply to Debbie) There were issues around the fact that, to move into band 8 the Trust took the opinion that education at MSC level was necessary, or willingness to undertake, which was not included in my JD. Even more frustrating when I do have one.

Jean, how come???????

Neil I have been banded an 8a without having to complete a JAQ. I think I submitted a good JD and as I took the job as an H, I was quite happy with the banding.

Hi
Just graded at band 6. 5 years in community infection control nurse post with BSc infection control.
An appeal will be going in, the majority of lead nurses in other specialities have been banded on 7. Despite being the only ICN in the PCT I was not subjected to a JAQ

you should have a Masters.

Hi,
I have recently taken up a post with my local PCT and the grade is an 8A. I have a dgree and there has been no mention of my having to complete a masters. My previous post was as a G grage in the Acute Trust and they banded me a 6 mid point.
Hope this is of use to you

Hi Neil

As you probably know, us HPNs are still waiting to be banded, having all completed a questionnaire and interview. I think it is expected we will hear before April but it keeps getting put back.

I find it unbelievable that ICNs are coming out on 6s and 7s. It also seems that ICNs aren't really too sure what they should come out on. I would recommend that everyone should read the 'Job Evaluation Handbook' and score themselves. The band is dependent on the total score, not just whether you've done a masters or not.

Also if you look at the section on 'knowledge, training and experience', 'highly developed specialist knowledge' (level 7) refers to needing 'a combination of in-depth experience and postgrad or postreg study', which is certainly required by ICNs. Also it refers to Master's degree or 'equivalent experience'. It gives an alternative of 'significant formal training or research in a relevant field, in addition to short courses and experience'. So it isn't as clear cut as having a masters or not.

If you look at the national profiles, an 8A and 8B are suggested for modern matrons. So for those of you that are happy to accept a 7 you might want to compare your responsibility with them. Personally, I think you are selling yourselves short.

I find it amazing that there hasn't been more of a backlash and media interest about Agenda for Change - especially when you consider how much it has cost to implement and how many people seem to be losing out.

Good luck to all those appealing,
