Quality of this Discussion Board

Neil, is there any chance of having a spell checker incorporated into the board's message field? Some of the spelling in recent postings would be embarrassing if it weren't so comical. Also, what about stricter gate keeping of who is allowed to join? I think this should be a forum for professionals.

I noticed a medical colleague of mine giggling in front of his computer today and when I asked him what was so funny he said, "Come and have a look this". He was reading the postings on this discussion board. He commented that he'd not seen anything so amusing yet unprofessional in ages. I felt embarrassed.

Am I being a snob or is the quality of this discussion board in danger of plummeting to an irretrievably low standard?

Gary has a point, it would be technically very difficult to include a spell checker (as well as all the problems with spell checkers that only a human eye can spot - such as real words used incorrectly)
Nevertheless, users of the forum have to take responsibily for the material they post both in terms of quality of written English and in the nature of the content.
we have hitherto been loathe to restrict the forum to ICNA members only as that could be rather insular and reduce the chances for wider debate; however we can and do remove individuals whose contributions are considered innapropriate (usually after some kind of warning has been given).
As it happens I've been out of the office today and have only now had chance to review the messages. You'll be aware that I have a day job and I rely on others telling me if things are going wrong, a number of you have done so today and I'm grateful.

Individuals are dealt with privately but for the benefit of all forum members let me repeat:

1. Keep the messages professional and about matters relating to infection prevention and control.
2. No advertising (see my many previous comments on this for clarification)
3. No frivolous requests or idle comments please

Please be aware that your message goes directly to the in box of several hundred users - don't post things that are likely to annoy, this includes anything other than serious enquiries about important issues.

I"d like to say I fully agree with Gary on the need for
tighter control of the forum. Having spent the last ten
minutes deleting what can only be described as nonsense has
been a complete waste of my time.

I thought the purpose of the forum was for IC professionals
to share/query information and not act as a source of
amusement for the general public.
