Hi
One of our GP surgeries is undergoing extensive refurbishment and are planning to include a minor op suite, including a clean and dirty utility area with adjacentaccess to the actual minor op room. Does anyone have, or know where I can access, specific infection control guidelines that can be used to measure the refurbishment work against so as to prevent problems at a later date. Thanks
Debbie

Has your PCT agreed a Decontamination Strategy for March 2007 to meet the National Decontamination Strategy as this will affect the build? - if they are to remain with in house sterilisation post 2007 then the area must conform to the 'principles' of HBN 13. Other guidance can be found in the NHS Estates doc Infection Control in the built environment and on the NHS Estates web site - Primary and Social care premises.
