Hi,
I have been asked to calculate the bed days lost in our trust due to Norovirus outbreaks. I was hopeful that somebody may have a formula that they have used in the past in relation to outbreaks of any organism that I could use??
I would be greatful for some help with this. Thanks in advance.

Given that calculating these figures is probably not your job I think a polite refusal is the right response to that request. This type of stuff is the responsibility of "Corporate Information" departments or similar. You would need to know all sorts of data which most of us do not record, e.g. number of delayed discharges due to pts having D+V, number of transfers from affected wards to nursing homes delayed and for how long etc. Most ICNs probably only record the number of empty/closed beds per day. It would also be hard to gather data retrospectively, it is better to collect it prospectively. |
