She often provides advice about the specialist area within which she works, and has done for many years. She was a H grade and has been banded a 6. Now, whenever another nurse phones for advice she asks what band they are and if they are banded higher than her, she refuses to give advice, and refers them to someone else. The reason she gives is that she is mindful of the level of responsibility she is expected to carry by being put into band 6. If someone with a greater perceived level of responsibility than her requires advice, they should get it from someone at least as senior as themselves. She says she can�t be respected as the �expert in her field� and still be banded so low and how will others respect her position. Her stance has made her situation stand out in her trust and her manager soon approached her asking her what assistance she required with her appeal!
My point is this: Just look at what AfC has started doing to the nursing profession. OK, this is an extreme course of action that she�s taken, and many will argue inappropriate� but is it? What�s the likelihood of infection control being affected in a similar way?
