Flu and humidification

In the DH document Guidance for Pandemic Influenza: Infection Control in Hospitals and Primary Care Settings it states that for patients ventilated in ICU "Water humidification should be avoided" (section 7.6, page 34).
I've not worked in ICU for about 7 years but I would have thought these patients would definitely require active humidification with water and that in line heat-moisture exchangers would be insufficient. Does anyone know why this recommendation was made as I cannot thnk of any infection control reason not to use humidification.
