Hi All,

I am confused regarding the wording of some questions!!

Are all of the yes answers calculated as positive answers and the no as negative answers ?

Some examples
4.5 (15) There is no transfer of clinical waste from one bag to another.
Finding is that there is no transfer.
If I answer no is this giving a negative result when it should be positive.
I answered Yes, ie there is no transfer.

4.5 (17) Waste bags are not tied onto containers/trolleys.
My finding is Yes they are tied to trolleys, so I tick No, as this is a negative result and calculated as same.
No, bags are tied onto trolleys.

4.9 (6) Antibacterial soaps are not used for social hand washing. Finding - no not used. so I tick Yes box, yes they are not used, giving a positive result.

4.9 (18) No wrist watches/stoned rings or other wrist jewellery are worn by staff. Finding is Yes are worn, I tick No box, no, not worn, giving a negative result.

Is that correct?

Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Claire.

Ever heard of the song entitled 'Yes! We have no bananas. We have no bananas today'.....probably not, but this is the song title to keep in mind when you're providing reponses to the criteria in the audit tool.

You're probably more confused now but bear with me and imagine you're a green grocer and someone comes in to your shop and says 'You've got no bananas' This is a statement not a question. Therefore if you haven't got any bananas you respond by agreeing with them, hence the song title.

So, keeping the banana example in mind, if you find that clinical waste bags are not tied to trolleys then your findings concur with the statement (not a question) therefore you answer with a 'Yes'. If you answered 'No' it would mean that you are disagreeing with the statement which means that in practice the bags you observed were tied to trolleys.

I hope that makes sense, if not my only excuse is that it is Friday evening and it's been a long week!

Hi Judy,

Thank you for your amusing reply that has put a smile on my face this Monday morning. Indeed I am familiar with the song "Yes we have No bananas" and No we have bags tied to the trolleys! The banana song will help for my next audit!!

Yours bananas,
Claire.

Morning Claire, I had exactly the same problem but after using it over time you get used to what your answering. At the begining I used to remind myself by ticking the correct box. 4.9 18 is the one that is confusing re jewelery if I found staff were I would tick NO so adding as a neg but then write in the comments box to remind me !!. I thought it was just me. One tip I would give anyone is make use of the comments areas as when you have completed a lot its easy to forget things for each area ( Ive done over 30 NHs in 6 months)Good luck Amanda
