Sue Ross enquired last summer as to the possibility of recycling as an option for disposable instruments, unfortunately no replies were recorded as to whether this was feasable.
In our PCT there is a tremendous interest amongst GP's towards single use however; the question of recycling still comes up.
Has anyone else looked into this?

Hi
My memory is failing rapidly but I am sure that PASA are looking at this as part of the work they are doing around national contract award for disposable instrumentation. I think Carol Callister may be the contact via PASA website.

If anyone reuses a single use instrument they are putting the patients at risk since the materials used have not necessarily been tested for efficacy of sterilisation, nor for the instruments" physical functionality. However, there is one German comapny that claims that it has had its recycling process validated for reprocessing various single use instruments. Barend ter Haar 07932104747
