I have been asked by our infection control manager in light of the most recent MRSA on ties report whether anybody has asked their staff (specificallly medical staff) not to wear ties, and if they have, have they been successful! |

Hi, Just read this and I'm a GP (and a GPSI MINOR OPS). My guess is that many doctors would be happy given a legitimate reason to ditch the tie as we mainly wear them out of respect for our older patients who expect us to don them :-)

My view is that this issue comes down to the wearer's standards of personal hygiene - if hands are cleansed before patient contact then there is no problem. If hands are not and the wearer is doing Oliver Hardy impersonations (he said showing his age) then you do have a problem.
If a person has poor standards it's a bit academic what they wear.
