Hi,
This is the third time I am asking this question.
Can anyone tell me what Question 6 of this section in the new ICNA 2005 audit tool means.
The refrigerator for vaccines has a thermometer that shows external and internal temperature.

As far as I understand vaccine fridge - it should have thermometer externally showing the current temperature and the minimum and maximum temperature since last reset.

Please help as we have used this tool for our audit and writting the report.

Tommy,
I've not seen the audit tool but if it is worded as you have said then I think its its wrong. I would agree with you that vaccine fridges require minimum, maximum and current internal fridge temperature displays and a reset button. Unfortunately there is no UK national standard for vaccine fridges (there is for blood fridges). NHS Estates were looking into this at least 12 months ago but I'm not sure if any guidance was issued.

Hello
I have passed this question on the Audit to Helen Jenkinson (Community Lead) to answer and deal with the question. Pharmacy departments tend to use a temperature gage in the department to monitor the external temperature. I have checked with Pharmacy on this.

Dear Jean,
Thank you for replying to my query. I still do not understand the need for
external temperature when it is the internal temperature of the fridge where
the vaccine is stored that is important.
I will wait to hear from Helen. Thanks once again.
