Dear all, Does anyone have any references on temporary closure of sharps bins and where this practice originated. Arguments for and against welcome. Anecdotal evidence welcome also. Many thanks, John

Dear John
I raised this myself recently as a discussion topic and - got little response - following a sharps injury sustained while a doctor was attemting to dispose of a needle in a sharps bin with temporary closure in action. I have no rationale for the practice of closing the aperture overnight or when not in use unless it is for aesthetic reasons.
