I am an infection control nurse covering lonstay, district hospitals community/resenitial and psychiatric hospitals.I am looking for any information on laundering of heat labile items of clothing for residents of these facilities. The question is a)What is an acceptable practice? How is the HSG(95)18 being applied to these heat labile items given that the document states that greater than 80% of items of linen in the psychiatric and geriatric facilities are likely to be infected. b) Is it considered that washing at 40 degrees and tumble drying at 60 degrees is sufficient for disinfection. c)Has anyone got experience of using 150ppm of an hypochlorite solution in the penultimate rinse cycle. If so is this only for heat labile items which are clearly soiled with blood and or body fluids. I would be grateful for any feedback. |
