Are there any specific recommendations for the wearing of aprons when holding/handling NICU babies? What do other Units recommend? Our nursing staff wear uniforms, medics wear scrubs - the plastic aprons are just the standard disposable aprons and do not provide uniform/scrub cover at the shoulders/arms/back. Suggestions/ recommendations if you have any. Thanks |

Sorry for late response. We have recently trialed some gowns in our neonatal unit and the staff seem happy to go ahead and use them from a practical point of view. They are single use (40p per gown, so this is the sticking point!), splash proof and long sleeved so cover the arms and shoulders, they are availalble from Cardinal and Molnlycke. Allison |

The nurses wear scrubs on our unit and the doctors often wear their own clothes. This has been raised as a concern. How did you persuade your doctors to wear scrubs? We are looking at the use of gowns too but the above issue needs addressing initially.
