The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent body that protects the health and well-being of everyone in England and Wales. The Agency plays a critical role in protecting people from infectious diseases and in preventing harm when hazards involving chemicals, poisons or radiation occur. We also prepare for new and emerging threats, such as a bio-terrorist attack or a virulent new strain of disease.

The Infection Control Team is comprised of five Infection Control Nurses, a Consultant Microbiologist/Infection Control Doctor and our Head of Surveillance/R&D.; The team is supported by innovative and highly evolved IT systems, including a Trust wide Infection Control Training and Policies programme, an IC patient management and alert organism surveillance programme.

The Infection Control Team is based at the Denmark Hill site of King's College Hospital NHS Trust. Your primary duties will be to facilitate the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within King's College Hospital NHS Trust. You will also participate in education programmes for all grades of clinical and non-clinical staff on aspects of infection control, to improve compliance with best practice. Appropriate support and supervision will be given to the individual depending on their experience.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ideally, you will currently be F or G grade, however, consideration will be given to applicants with other significant experience.

This post will provide an excellent opportunity for anyone thinking of embarking on a career in Infection Control.
