Does anyone have a reference for the need to finish bedmaking 15 minutes before dressings are renewed, or did I make this up? I would be most grateful if you could point me in the right direction. Regards Sue Bangor |

I have numerous articles about aseptic technique and only one of them mentions bed making. It basically states that ward cleaning and bed making should have ceased at least 30 minutes before doing an aseptic wound dressing but does not refer to any research to back this up. The ref is Xavier G (1999) Asepsis Nursing Standard 13(36) p49-53 (May 26th edition)

Those of us of a certain age will remember being taught that you didnt start the "dressing round" until 30 mins after the last bed was made. Never seen any literature that suports this practice though.
