Hi everyone, has anyone chosen to go to latex free gloves yet, as we are reviewing our current supplier. I would be interested to know what if any problems you have experienced or are aware of if you have made the switch, and are you happy with them from a PPE pont of view?

Hi

We started using vinyl gloves about 18 months ago. Initially there were comments from the staff that they didn't like them, however, when we evaluated their use 6 months later there didnt seem to be a problem. Vinyl gloves do not have the same elasticity as latex and they will rip more easily if staff have long fingernails or too much hand jewellery. I address these issue through training.
Initially I had a problem with their use as PPE, however, I was assurred after long investigations that vinyl gloves are acceptable as long as they comply to BS EN 455 standards.

I hope this helps. If you require further advice, please contact me on 01624 650651.

One PCT I cover uses Nitrile gloves only & has done so since 1999. We struggled a bit with sterile ones but are very happy now.

Hi

I'd be grateful for any information re latex v vinyl. We're trying to go latex free apart from for use with cytotoxics, but are facing resistence from staff with regard to the possibility of blood borne viruses passing through vinyl. [email protected]
