Our policy states that new phlebotomists are advised to wear gloves until
they are competent. After that, they do their own risk assessment. If they
think they are more at risk of an injury whilst wearing gloves because of
reduced dexterity, the they can chose not to wear them. Gloves will not
prevent a needle penetrating the skin but will reduce the amount of
innoculem.
