Susan Does this help? From Canada: www.cdc.gov............. VAP has been classified into either early-onset pneumonia (EOP), if pneumonia develops within 96 hours of the patient"s admission to an ICU or intubation for mechanical ventilation, and late-onset pneumonia (LOP), if pneumonia develops after 96 hours of the patient"s admission to an ICU or intubation for mechanical ventilation. Not a definition per se, but because the pathogenesis is so hard to pin down ( ie. were the pathogens insitu pre-ventilation, were they translocated from various sites with the most suspect route being micro-aspiration from the oropharynx etc. etc.) I find it hard to locate a simple definition in our literature.
